Description
Asthma involves a history of respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, dyspnea, chest tightness, and cough, variable in duration and intensity, with variable expiratory airflow limitation and airway hyperreactivity to various stimuli, including physical effort and exposure to inhaled irritants.
The most common inflammatory lung disease, asthma affects both large and small airways and is characterized by a combination of inflammation and structural remodeling, possibly beginning as early as the fetal period.
